        Well, Newt has just been quoted as saying there will be "nothing on the
telecom bill until we have a budget."  It may be a while, to say the least.

Glad to see the COM LAW list still active...

As to Congress's new telecommunications statute, the Wall Street Journal
and Broadcasting & Cable both say that consideration of the bill will be
postponed until possibly March. The delay is due in part to Dole's
presidential campaigning.

The topic of a presidential campaign year raises the question in my mind
of whether this telecom "reform" bill will pass at all this year.
Wouldn't politicians rather milk related PACS for all their worth during
this election cycle than pass a telecomm bill that Pressler has said is
"the most lobbied bill" in history? If 1996 is anything like 1992 in
terms of campaign contributions and promises for telecom, I wouldn't
expect a decision until next year. Comments?
