I found myself referring to it often as I tried to sort out in my mind how Congress was able to pass a bill restricting freedom of speech on the Internet." -- Michael Drury The Telecommunications Act of 1996, for the first time, regulates the transmission of information over the Internet. Is this constitutional? Why are you thinking? My online book WOULD THE REAL FIRST AMENDMENT PLEASE STAND UP? (in HTML format), generated from the 138 page book of the same title, has over 150 footnotes and several charts and diagrams detailing the process by which the First Amendment has had its essence gutted. Here's a small bit of proof: if you were an attorney and only cited the First Amendment in your brief against the Act (it is, after all, a law passed by Congress which abridges the freedom of speech), you'd be found guilty of malpractice! The text of the REAL First Amendment is at this site, of course. Just in case you were wondering.
