The continuiing discussion regarding the appropriateness of censorship, CDA,
privacy, and freedom of speech, while interesting, overloks the fact that
there IS an appropriate solution to these problems:
a. Require that any materials which will be made availible to 'protected'
youth be posted with the authenticated name of the poster (no annonymous
postings to this group).
b. Require that access to adult materials require authentication that the
person is, in fact, an adult (the adult will still have the ability to be
annonymous).
STI, for one, is close to providing the means to acomplish these goals,
without any reasonable risk that the either the authenticated name can be
altered and providing a method to authenticate a user's adult status (in
less time than current log-in procedures).
